Rose/Van Duyne RegattaThe Rose Memorial/Van Duyne Regatta, scheduled each year in September, is an inter-club race. The race in this painting was in 1987. Mr. LaBonté hired an aerial photographer to take various shots of the Bay Head Yacht Club for this painting to get the perspective right. His sense of humor can be seen with the fisherman in the way of the race (and the guys on the committee boat yelling at him), the mermaid on the dock, and the Murphy kid hanging from the flagpole. The new Yacht Club is larger and many of the houses in the distance have been replaced since Hurricane Sandy. Even Borough Hall in the distance has been rebuilt. But the race continues!
