Ladies' Doubles

Joseph Priest of Toms River opened Bay Head's first drugstore in the early 1880s. There were only 19 houses in Bay Head at the time. Later, Priest's corner had tennis courts, in 1914 Sacred Heart Church occupied it (see Sacred Heart at Harris St painting), and in the 1930s there was a miniature golf course. The little girl in this painting is Natalie Stiles, Joseph Priest's grand-daughter, a friend of the artist. Note the trolley traveling along Lake Avenue.
