Going to the Picnic

Before 1920, a trolley line connected Bay Head and the amusement park at Clark's Landing, 3 miles away in Pt. Pleasant. Five cents a ride. This scene shows school children, parents and teachers loading onto one of the open cars for an outing. The building is the Bay Head Land Company, later to become the Clover Cottage, Dorcas's and now the Dune Grass Cafe, on the corner of Lake and Bridge Avenues. Murphy is arriving late on the back of the car!
