Father's Arrived From the City

Back in those days, if Father worked in the city, and if the family was lucky enough to manage a month at the seashore, they only saw Father on weekends. He traveled into town by train on Monday morning, worked at least a 5 1/2 day week, came back on a late Saturday-afternoon train, rolled up his blue serge pants and waded into the ocean. (Mother has his shoes; his socks are in his pockets.)
